Why medical translation requires clinical expertise

A single mistranslated dosage, diagnosis, or allergy record can result in patient harm — or legal liability.

Medical records translation is not a task for general translators. Clinical accuracy, HIPAA compliance, and legal defensibility all depend on translators who know medicine, not just language.

Clinical expertise — not just language fluency — is required

A single mistranslated medication dosage, diagnosis code, or allergy record can result in patient harm. Medical translation requires translators with clinical training or significant healthcare documentation experience — not just bilingual fluency.

USCIS Form I-693 immigration medical exams require ATA-certified translation

USCIS Form I-693 immigration medical exam results must be translated by an ATA-certified translator to be accepted. Our translators meet this requirement — and understand the specific medical terminology used in immigration health screenings.

Legal proceedings require medically and legally defensible translations

Law firms subpoenaing foreign medical records for personal injury, malpractice, or immigration cases need certified translations that are both medically accurate and legally defensible under evidentiary rules. Our translators hold both credentials.

Frequently asked questions

Medical translation questions, answered.

Are your medical translations HIPAA compliant?

Yes. All medical records are handled under HIPAA-compliant protocols. Our secure portal uses TLS 1.3 for transmission and AES-256 for storage. All translators sign confidentiality and HIPAA compliance agreements before receiving any patient document. A Business Associate Agreement (BAA) is available for healthcare organizations and covered entities.

Do you have a BAA available?

Yes. We offer a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) for healthcare organizations, hospitals, clinics, insurance companies, and any covered entity under HIPAA. Contact us before uploading any patient records and we will execute the BAA first.

I need I-693 immigration medical exam results translated — can you do that?

Yes. USCIS Form I-693 requires translation by an ATA-certified translator. Our medical translators are ATA-certified and experienced with the specific terminology used in immigration health examinations. The resulting translation meets USCIS requirements for I-485 adjustment of status applications.

Can I submit these translations to a US court?

Yes. Our certified medical translations are accepted by US federal and state courts, including in personal injury, malpractice, and immigration proceedings. Each translation includes a signed translator competency declaration that meets evidentiary standards for court submission.

How do you handle patient PII in translated documents?

Patient personally identifiable information (PII) is handled under strict HIPAA protocols. We do not retain any PHI after delivery unless contractually required. Document access is limited to the assigned translator and the project manager. All documents are purged from our systems within 30 days of delivery unless you request otherwise.
