Why eLearning localization is different

Training that employees can't understand
is a compliance liability, not an asset.

Government agencies and healthcare systems invest significantly in compliance training. When that training is English-only — or machine-translated — it fails the very workers it's meant to protect.

Compliance training doesn't work if employees can't understand it

LEP workers in healthcare, construction, and government roles face legal risk when safety and compliance training is English-only. OSHA, HIPAA, and EEO training obligations extend to all employees regardless of language.

Federal contractors under EO 13166 must provide accessible training

Any federally-funded program that trains LEP staff or serves LEP populations has language access obligations under Executive Order 13166 and Title VI. Untranslated training creates documented compliance exposure.

AI translation mangles eLearning logic

Branching scenarios, conditional variables, and on-screen UI strings require a human who understands both the language and the authoring tool. Machine translation breaks SCORM variables and renders branching logic unpredictable.

What we localize

Every element of your training content —
not just the narration script.

On-Screen Text & Narration Scripts

All visible text and narration copy translated by subject-matter specialists familiar with your industry terminology.

Closed Captions & Subtitles

Translated captions synced to video timing. WCAG 1.2 compliant output for Section 508 LMS requirements.

WCAG 1.2

Quiz Questions & Answer Choices

Assessment content translated with care for meaning equivalence — so the correct answer is still correct in the target language.

SCORM/xAPI Variable Strings

Completion messages, error strings, and dynamic variables handled by translators who understand how authoring tools work.

SCORM Compatible

GSA Contracted
From files to finished course

Five steps to a localized training course.

We work within your existing authoring tool environment — no re-building courses from scratch.

1

Receive source files

Submit your Storyline, Rise, Captivate, or Lectora source files along with any supplementary materials. We review for complexity, variable strings, and branching logic.

Most authoring tool formats accepted
2

Assign subject-matter translator

A translator with expertise in your training subject matter (OSHA, HIPAA, clinical, HR, etc.) is assigned — not a generalist. They also have authoring tool familiarity.

Subject-matter match confirmed before start
3

QA for context & variables

A second reviewer checks all translated strings in context — meaning that dynamic variables, branching triggers, and conditional text are reviewed in the actual course environment, not just in a spreadsheet.

In-context review — not just spreadsheet QA

Frequently asked questions

eLearning localization questions, answered.

What file formats do you accept (SCORM, Storyline, Lectora, Rise)?
We accept source files from Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, Adobe Captivate, Lectora, iSpring, and most other major authoring tools. For tools where we can work directly in the source file we prefer that; for others we can work from exported XLIFF files or a structured spreadsheet export. We also accept SCORM packages for review, though we return localized content in the original authoring tool format when possible.
Do you preserve branching logic?
Yes. Preserving branching logic is one of the core reasons to use professional eLearning localization rather than generic translation. Our translators review branching scenarios, conditional triggers, and jump logic in context — not just in a spreadsheet — to ensure that the correct answer still leads to the correct branch in the target language version.
Do you do voiceover recording?
We translate and format voiceover scripts for recording. Voiceover recording itself can be arranged separately — we work with a network of native-speaking voice talent in 50+ languages and can coordinate recording as an add-on to the localization project. Contact us to discuss your specific language and voice requirements.
What's the typical turnaround?
Turnaround depends on course length and complexity. A standard 30-minute course (approximately 3,000–5,000 words) typically delivers in 5–7 business days per language. Larger courses or multi-language projects are scheduled with a project plan. Rush options are available for time-sensitive compliance deadlines — contact us to discuss your specific timeline.
Can you handle variable and placeholder strings?
Yes, and this is an area where professional eLearning localization is critical. Dynamic variables like learner names, scores, and completion messages contain placeholder syntax that must not be translated. Our translators are briefed on variable notation for each authoring tool and flag any cases where the variable syntax could be misread as translatable text.
