Why medical translation requires specialists

A general translator who doesn't know the difference between a serum creatinine level and a creatinine clearance rate will produce translations that look fluent but contain clinical errors. Every medical translation we deliver is performed by a translator with domain-specific medical training, not general language expertise alone.

🎓

Medical Domain Specialists

Our medical translators hold degrees in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, or biomedical science — in addition to translation credentials. We verify domain expertise before any medical assignment. Cardiology documents go to translators with cardiology backgrounds. Oncology to oncology specialists.

ISO 17100 Process

Every medical translation follows a translation → review → edit (TRE) workflow. A second independent medical translator reviews all clinical and pharmaceutical content. Final proofreading for terminology consistency and formatting. No single-pass translation for medical content.

🔐

HIPAA-Compliant Workflow

All PHI transmitted via TLS 1.3 encrypted channels. Translators operate under HIPAA-compliant NDAs. Business Associate Agreements (BAA) executed for healthcare clients as standard. Minimum necessary PHI access enforced at the project level.

Medical specialties

Translators with expertise in
every medical specialty.

We maintain a network of 5,000+ translators with medical backgrounds. You never get a general linguist assigned to a cardiology consent form.

Medical translation FAQ

What is certified medical translation?

Certified medical translation is a translation of a medical document accompanied by a signed statement from the translator or translation agency attesting to the accuracy and completeness of the translation. The certification makes the translation legally acceptable for USCIS immigration applications, court proceedings, insurance claims, and hospital use. Our certifications comply with USCIS requirements and are accepted by all US federal agencies.

How much does medical translation cost?

Medical translation starts at $24.99 per page for standard certified translation (5–7 business days). Rush medical translation (48 hours) is $31.24/page. Same-day medical translation is $37.49/page. Large volume projects (pharmaceutical labeling, device IFUs, regulatory submissions) are priced per word — contact us for a volume quote. Notarization is available for an additional $40.

What qualifications do your medical translators have?

Our medical translators hold ATA certification or equivalent national credentials, plus verifiable domain expertise: a degree in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, biomedical engineering, or a clinical specialty. We require translators to document their medical education and verify it before any medical assignment. Translators are also required to have working familiarity with relevant regulatory frameworks (FDA, EU MDR, ICH) for regulatory translation work.

Is medical translation HIPAA-compliant?

Yes. We operate as a HIPAA-compliant Business Associate. All documents containing PHI are transmitted via TLS 1.3 encrypted file transfer. Translators sign HIPAA-compliant NDAs and work under strict access controls. We execute Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) with healthcare providers as a standard part of contracting. PHI is never stored on personal devices or transmitted via unencrypted email.

What languages do you translate medical documents into?

We provide certified medical translation in 300+ languages, including all major world languages and rare languages. The most requested medical translation languages we serve include Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, Arabic, Vietnamese, Korean, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Russian, Hindi, Tagalog, French, Polish, Somali, Amharic, and Hmong. For languages not listed, contact us — we maintain relationships with specialist translators for low-resource medical languages.

How long does medical translation take?

Standard certified medical translation is delivered in 2–5 business days depending on document length and language. Rush medical translation (48-hour turnaround) is available for most language pairs. Same-day medical translation is available for urgent needs. Large regulatory submissions or multi-language pharmaceutical localization projects are scheduled with defined milestones — typical timelines range from 1 to 6 weeks depending on volume.
