Common questions

Certified Translation FAQ

What is a certified translation and when is it required?

A certified translation is a translation accompanied by a signed statement — the Certificate of Accuracy — from the translator or translation company attesting that the translation is complete and accurate. It is required whenever a government agency, court, university, or official institution cannot accept a document in its original language. Common situations include USCIS immigration applications, US passport applications, court filings, academic credential evaluations, and banking or financial institution submissions. The exact requirements vary by institution, but a properly executed certified translation from a qualified translator is universally accepted.

Does USCIS accept Language Access Hub certified translations?

Yes. Our certified translations meet 8 CFR § 103.2(b)(3), the federal regulation governing translations submitted to USCIS. That regulation requires that any document in a foreign language be accompanied by a full English translation that the translator certifies as complete and accurate, along with a certification that the translator is competent to translate. Our Certificate of Accuracy explicitly references this standard, includes the translator's full name, date, signature, and qualifications, and is formatted to USCIS adjudicator expectations. We have never had a certified translation rejected by USCIS.

What documents are included in a certified translation packet?

A standard certified translation packet includes the complete English translation of the original document, a Certificate of Accuracy signed by the translator with their full name, professional qualifications, date, and declaration of accuracy, and a copy of the original document for reference. For complex documents like multi-page court records or bound academic transcripts, we also include a pagination statement. If notarization is required, a notary public signs and seals the certificate — adding roughly $40 to the order. Everything is delivered as a clean, professionally formatted PDF ready for institutional submission.

How long does certified translation take?

Standard certified translation is delivered in 2–5 business days depending on language pair, document complexity, and current volume. Rush service (48-hour delivery) is available at $31.24/page. Same-day delivery by end of business is available at $37.49/page for orders placed before noon Eastern. For large multi-document cases — such as complete immigration packets with 10 or more documents — we provide a custom timeline at no extra charge for the estimate. Most single-document orders placed before noon are completed the same business day under the standard tier.

Do I need a notarized translation or just certified?

Most institutions — including USCIS, federal courts, and universities — require only a certified translation, not a notarized one. A certified translation includes the translator's signed Certificate of Accuracy. A notarized translation additionally has a notary public sign and stamp the certificate, verifying the translator's identity and signature. Some state courts, foreign embassies, and consular offices require notarization. If you're unsure, ask the institution receiving the document. We can provide both services, and adding notarization costs $40 regardless of page count.

Can I get certified translation in languages other than Spanish?

Yes. We provide certified translation in over 300 languages, including all major world languages such as Spanish, Portuguese, French, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Arabic, Russian, Hindi, Bengali, Tagalog, Korean, Vietnamese, Haitian Creole, and many others. Rare and indigenous languages are available with slightly longer lead times. Every language pair uses a translator with demonstrated subject-matter expertise in the document type being translated — we do not assign general translators to specialized legal, medical, or immigration documents.
